Temperature Indicating Coatings with thenex

At thenex, we specialize in Temperature Indicating Coatings, also known as thermochromic coatings (inks/paint). These special coatings change color in response to temperature changes, thanks to pigments that react to heat. There are two main types of thermochromic coatings:

Reversible Thermochromic Paints: These coatings change color at a certain temperature and revert to their original color when the temperature drops. They are ideal for applications requiring repeated temperature change indications, such as thermometers.

Irreversible Thermochromic Coatings: These coatings change color permanently when a specific temperature is reached, making them perfect for indicating whether a product has been exposed to a certain temperature, such as in safety indicators or quality control.

Thermochromic coatings are used across various industries, including:

  • Petrochemical
  • Oil & Gas
  • Food Industry
  • Textile Industry
  • Heavy Industry

Let us answer your questions!

What are the advantages of temperature indicating coatings?2024-05-29T12:20:38+02:00

By using such a TI paint, unwanted heating in a selected area of the system can be detected at an early stage without having to be in the immediate surroundings. Nor is the installation of extensive security systems needed. It is also a practical solution for valves that are installed lower down or at a height.

How much coating do I need?2024-03-26T15:55:11+01:00

We will be glad to calculate the appropriate quantity of paint for your individual requirements. Please inform us of the corresponding area and we will prepare a quotation!

Are multicolor changes possible?2020-06-26T22:21:44+02:00

Yes they are, depending on the temperature range and product applied.

How should I apply thenex temperature indicating coatings?2020-06-26T22:21:27+02:00

The coating is applied directly to the desired area from the outside. After appropriate cleaning of the surface to be treated, the paint can be applied in a two-coat process. This consists of the upstream primer and the subsequent application of the paint itself. If a temperature indicating paint has already been applied, this must first be completely removed.

Detailed operating instructions will come with the coating, as they may differ from one product to the other.

What is the stortage life of the coatings?2020-06-26T22:21:11+02:00

Storage life of the unpacked paint cans is 12 months after production.

What is the service life of thenex temperature indicating coatings?2020-06-26T22:19:20+02:00
The paint is forfeited once the transfer temperature has been reached for the first time and the effective color change has taken place.
Why is the application of a primer necessary?2020-06-26T22:19:02+02:00

Application with primer is necessary and is recommended by both the manufacturer and thenex. A warranty can only be claimed if it is used. If you have detailed technical questions, we can send you a corrosion test report.

Are there any handling issues?2020-06-26T22:15:06+02:00

thenex is aware of the product-specific handling and packaging requirements (coatings and equipment require hazardous goods packaging) and has settled many shipments to different countries.

How will the shipping be organized?2020-06-26T22:03:11+02:00

thenex secures worldwide shipping. We know country-specific requirements for the import / export of goods. Like any other exporter, we are subject to the global restriction lists and export regulations. This means that the final destination is queried before each order is accepted and the exact end user is required in order to check any export restrictions for both the end user and for country of final destination.
