Engineered job by job

High firing rates. Stringent emission limits.

Burners and combustion equipment are engineered for each project by a team of specialised engineers, so they can be adapted to a wide range of operating conditions. Industrial burners reach high firing rates while meeting stringent restrictions on pollutant emissions.

Each supply comes with detailed technical documentation for installation, and quality control plans secure project management, workmanship and material quality. Qualified engineers support installation supervision, commissioning and start-up.

Burner series and technical data

DMPJE

Low NOx burners

Two air registers, for liquid and/or gaseous fuels — one or several fuels at the same time. Combustion air is split into primary and secondary flows for stratified combustion.

Firing rateup to 60 MW
Turndown6:1
Combustion airup to 550 °C
Pressure drop150 – 200 mm wg
NOx, natural gas140 – 150 mg/Nm³
CO, natural gas30 mg/Nm³
NOx, heavy fuel oil*400 mg/Nm³
Particulate, heavy fuel oil*50 mg/Nm³

DTPJE

Ultra low NOx burners

For the most stringent emission limits on gaseous fuels, with or without flue gas recirculation (FGR), at high combustion efficiency.

Firing rateup to 60 MW
Turndown7:1
Combustion airup to 550 °C
Pressure drop200 – 250 mm wg
NOx, natural gas without FGR75 mg/Nm³
NOx, natural gas with FGR55 mg/Nm³
CO, natural gas30 mg/Nm³

MPJE

Low NOx burners

The classic BCE design: one air register, for liquid and/or gaseous fuels, with a large number of references worldwide.

Firing rateup to 60 MW
Turndown6:1
Combustion airup to 550 °C
Pressure drop150 – 200 mm wg
NOx, natural gas200 mg/Nm³
CO, natural gas30 mg/Nm³
NOx, heavy fuel oil*450 mg/Nm³
Particulate, heavy fuel oil*50 mg/Nm³

Duct

Duct burners

Typically used in combined-cycle plants, firing with fresh air (gas turbine off) or with turbine exhaust. Stainless steel construction for duct temperatures up to 500 °C.

Firing rateup to 15 MW per row
Turndown10:1
Combustion airup to 550 °C
Pressure drop10 – 20 mm wg
Flame length1,500 mm
NOx, natural gas, fresh air30 mg/Nm³
CO, natural gas, fresh air30 mg/Nm³

VRGO

VRGO burners

A series of gas lances plus a central lance, which is replaced by a fuel-oil or diesel atomiser for liquid firing. For new combustion systems and the revamping of existing plants.

Firing rateup to 25 MW
Turndown5:1
Combustion airup to 400 °C
Pressure drop50 – 100 mm H₂O
NOx, natural gas200 mg/Nm³
CO, natural gas50 mg/Nm³
NOx, heavy fuel oil*450 mg/Nm³

Off-gas

Off-gas and low LHV burners

External gas scroll injects the process gas into the combustion chamber; gas lances and a central gas gun heat up the system before syngas injection. At very low calorific values the gas gun or a continuous pilot stays in operation; two syngas streams can be handled with a double external scroll.

Flame dimensions adjustable (except duct burners); materials carbon steel or stainless steel. *Heavy fuel oil with 0.2 % nitrogen by weight. Values as published by thenex for BCE burners; project-specific data on request.

Special burners

For demanding processes and difficult fuels

Sulphur burners

For sulphuric acid plants and other processes using sulphur as a raw material, such as aluminium fluoride production.

  • Complete with tip and plug for mechanical sulphur atomisation
  • Steam-traced to keep the sulphur liquid at the required temperature and pressure

Off-gas and low-LHV burners

For process gases with low or variable calorific values.

  • External gas scroll, gas lances and central gas gun
  • Continuous pilot for very low heating values
  • Double external scroll for two different syngas streams

Air heater, incinerator and kiln burners

Combustion air comes from a distributor duct flanged directly to the burner — no wind box, no air register, a diffuser instead.

  • Kiln burners based on the KS design
  • One, two or three combustion-air distributors
  • For fresh or pre-heated combustion air

Blast furnace burners

For metallurgical processes at very high operating temperatures.

  • Made from Inconel / Hastelloy
  • Central pilot igniter on natural gas or rich gas
  • Fired with low-LHV process gas such as coke oven gas
  • Nitrogen cooling when not in operation

Burner management systems

Safe start-up, operation and shutdown

BCE supplies complete burner management systems for water-tube boilers, heat recovery steam generators (HRSG), waste-to-energy incinerators, waste liquid and gas incinerators and many other industrial applications.

The typical control system consists of two separate units in line with NFPA 85 (Boiler and Combustion Systems Hazards Code); simpler systems are available on request. Each system is supplied fully configured, cabled and wired to terminal strips in a free-standing cabinet, and tested in the workshop with an I/O simulator — witnessed by the client if required. All main PLC brands can be provided, typically HIMA, Siemens and Allen-Bradley.

Assembled skids

Fuel oil and fuel gas skids, ready to connect

thenex and BCE provide engineering and complete supply of mechanically, electrically and pneumatically assembled skids for heavy fuel oil, diesel oil and fuel gas feeding lines to burners.

Assembled oil skids

  • Heating and pumping units that bring fuel oil to the burners at the right temperature (viscosity) and pressure (stable atomisation)
  • Scope matched to system power, pressure limits, redundancy and design criteria

Assembled gas skids

  • Instrumentation, manual and pneumatic valves, flow meter and control valve
  • Local control panel where required
  • Pressure reduction stations for high-pressure fuel gas

Codes, tests and certificates

  • Designed to ASME, PED, API, TEMA, ATEX and other applicable codes
  • Pressure tests, welding tests (WPS/PQR, LP, PMI) and painting tests before final assembly
  • Test certificates issued to the client
